  • Armour Hills, Christopher Conway (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
Should be named Armour Hills Gardens (Consisting of Armour Hills & Oak Meyer Gardens & Rockhill Gardens). Armour Hills is only one neighborhood encompassed within this larger area designated in Real Estate Sources as Armour Hills Gardens. These neighborhoods were all part of J.C. Nichols original suburban development of Kansas City, Missouri, which was based on succinct isolated neighborhoods buffered from adjacent areas, incorporating very strong and sophisticated land covenants. The lands were originally purchased from wealthy, landed families such as Armour, Ward, Rockhill, Meyer, etc., using private financing.

The tunnel has never been lost. Railfans in the area (including me) remember the top of the east entrance visible at the west side of a parking lot west of 8th and Washington. It now under State Street Bank. . . . The track behind Folder Coffee was Kansas City Southern. The bridge to it is still over I-35 to the north on May St.
